China will import corn from Brazil

Purchases must be initiated now in season 2013/14

The Brazilian government signed on Wednesday ( 06 / 11 ) in Guangzhou , China , plant a protocol that will allow Brazilian corn exports to that country . The opening of the Chinese market has been negotiated since the beginning of the year and it is expected that the first shipments happening now in season 2013/14 .

In evaluating Antonio Andrade , Minister of Agriculture , part of the Brazilian team that is China, sales Brazilian corn can achieve in the long term , 10 million tons , and estimated value of $ 4 billion.

Last year , Brazilian exports of maize amounted to 20 million tons and generated U.S. $ 5.3 billion , of which only $ 19 million referred to the business with China .

According to information from the Department of Agriculture U.S. corn imports from China amounted to 3 million in 2012/13 crop should jump to 7 million in 2013/14 .

The Chinese corn crop is estimated at 215 million tonnes in 2013/14 volume 4.5 % higher than the previous period , but the volume , according to analysts , will not be sufficient to meet domestic demand , which grows follows heated between 7 % and 8 % per year.
