Fundecitrus and Bayer CropScience have signed an agreement to control greening

Partnership should extend through 2018

Bayer CropScience and the Fund for Citrus Plant Protection ( Fundecitrus ) announced a partnership agreement which provides for investment of 3 million euros in research on citrus , whose main objective is to seek new ways to control greening ( HLB ) is the main pest of orchards . The project was named " Citrus States " and will run until 2018.

Part of the investment will be earmarked for the development of sustainable solutions , such as creating amaraxia radiata , insect natural enemies of the psyllid Diaphorina citri , vector of the bacterium that causes greening . Other actions include the development of new methods for the early identification and diagnosis of disease as well as the empowerment of producers for technical and scientific advances .

" We are developing new products and technologies to control disease and insect vector to provide farmers with innovative tools that improve production," said Gerhard Bohne , director of operations for crop protection business of Bayer CropScience in Brazil .

For the president of Fundecitrus , Lourival Carmo Monaco , partnerships with companies and institutions " are prerequisite to respond promptly to the latest developments and the growing demand for new technological solutions in citrus and help farmers meet new challenges ."
