Brazil and the EU agreed to discuss marketing of organic products

 The harmonization of standards and procedures for regulated organic production between Brazil and the European Union is the main reason for the meeting. In this first step is being performed a comparative study between the regulations of both parties.

So it came to Brazil a mission of the European Union with the presence of Hans-Christian Beaumond and Manuel Rossi, responsible respectively for agricultural affairs in Latin America and the area of ​​organic agriculture. The Secretary of Agricultural Development and Cooperatives, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply, Caio Rocha received the mission, on Monday (29/7) in Brasilia.

At the hearing, was presented the structure of the equivalence process that is usually used by the European Union should be established and how the work schedule, which will be in stages - for example, aimed at verifying commonalities and differences that must be addressed in the discussion process for the recognition of equivalence.

According to Caio Rocha, the procedure can bring great benefits to commercial producers in Brazil and Europe, by reducing costs and bureaucracy for the international marketing of organic products, to simplify the certification process for these products are exported in both senses. "The establishment of technical protocols in organic production that can serve as an example for other products of commercial interest in Brazil," he said.

On the agenda of interest to Brazilian organic products to the EU are products such as cocoa, coffee, tea and fruit. In contrast, the EU has been providing wine, dairy and organic olive oil, among others.

To know a little more organic production in Brazil, the European technicians visited on Saturday (27/7) to Malunga Farm, located in the Federal District, which is a national reference in organic crop and livestock production.
