During the plenary session "Scenarios 2020: Towards a Global Agenda in Favor of Biofuels", held on the morning of Friday (28/06) at the Ethanol Summit in Sao Paulo, industry representatives from Brazil, Europe, the United States and Africa discussed the development of a common agenda between the two countries in order to expand the marketing of ethanol. After completing that need not be disputing every inch of this market, the United States and Brazil, the two largest producers of ethanol in the world, stressed the need to transfer production technology for different regions in order to internationalize production.

In assessing the president of Unica, the demand for gasoline in the United States and Europe is decreasing. "In these regions there is already a policy of using cleaner sources of energy. The consumption of fossil grow in emerging countries, we need to invest in technology transfer to enable the introduction of alternative fuels in these regions, "says Elizabeth Farina.

According to Meghan Sapp, Secretary General of Pangea (Partners for Euro-African Green Energy), an institution that promotes the sustainable production of bioenergy in Africa, there are 54 countries in Africa that import all of its energy demand. Meghan is required for installing ethanol plants in the continent, but alert to the fact that each country has small demand and the ethanol industry in Africa will take more than five years to develop.

Rob Vierhoout, president of the Advanced Biofuels Association believes that the adoption of clear policies, such as those that have been adopted in the current ethanol consumers, who seek self-sufficiency, can be replicated in different regions.

Domestic market

"The chance of the price of gasoline be adjusted in the short term is very low." The estimate was made by Elizabeth Farina, president of the Union of the Industry of Cane Sugar Association (UNICA). The recent demonstrations in Brazil last month calling for solutions to the national public transport should not influence the price of gasoline, Elizabeth believes, because there is great concern about controlling inflation. The maintenance of the price of gasoline from its current level, however, should not hinder the plans of the sector to boost ethanol consumption, which should grow again this year in Brazil due to increased production in the Center-South, which should reduce the pricing.
