Ethanol sales reaches record level in August

Price drop drives marketing that exceeds by 34% the total recorded in the same period 2012

Ethanol sales in the domestic market totaled 2.17 billion liters in August , up 34.75% over the volume recorded in the same month of 2012 . In the same period exports stood at 369.11 million liters . The data are from the Union of Sugarcane Industry (UNICA ) . Sales of hydrated reached 1.25 billion liters - 3.37 % higher at about 1.21 billion liters sold in July this year and 20.69 % of the amount calculated in the same period of 2012/2013 crop ( 1.03 billion liters ) . The sale of anhydrous ethanol in the domestic market reached 922.77 million liters in August.

The Unica's technical director , Antonio de Padua Rodrigues , explains that " the volumes sold by mills in the South Central region , considering both the grand total ( domestic supply plus exports totaling 2.54 billion liters ) as one directed only to market, were close to the record high for a single month , observed in July 2009 and September 2010 , respectively . " Significant part of this performance is due to consumer response vehicle owners flex , which again consume more hydrated ethanol instead of gasoline , he added.

According to data collected by the Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels ( ANP ) in the last week of August the average price of hydrous ethanol to consumers in the states of Goiás , Mato Grosso , Paraná and São Paulo remained close to 65 % of the value of gasoline prices , creating a strong stimulus for the consumption of biofuels . The volume of cane sugar produced by mills in the South Central region of 94.79 million tonnes in the month , compared to 86.95 million tonnes processed in July and 90.77 million counted in August 2012 .

The accumulated since the beginning of the current crop until September 1 , the volume of processed raw material reached 363.45 million tons . In August , the monthly production of sugar reached 6.12 million tons , while the volume of ethanol produced totaled 4.03 billion liters . Already accumulated since the beginning of the season 2013/2014 until September 1 , sugar production reached 19.96 million tons . In this period , ethanol production totaled 15.36 billion liters, of which 6.50 billion liters of anhydrous ethanol and 8.86 billion liters of hydrated .
