The model and former VJ Ellen Jabour , actor Eduardo Pires TV Record and actress Thaila Ayala launched a global campaign on Change.org , one of the largest portals in the world of petitions , asking the fast -food McDonald's commits to the abolition of the use of gestation crates for breeding sows , a practice considered excessively cruel by experts from animal welfare and banned in some countries . Last year , the network is committed to the change in the United States , but has not extended this policy to Brazil .

" Industrial production of pork in Brazil is extremely cruel to animals . We were horrified to discover that most sows spend almost their entire lives trapped in gestation crates , as small cubicles where they can barely move , " declared the artists . " In the U.S., McDonald 's has pledged to abolish these cells , admitting publicly that they ' are not a sustainable production system ' and charging that change their suppliers . It's past time for them to do the same here, " complete the famous .

The artists also recorded a video to encourage the public to thicken the campaign to end the cruel practices in food production .

According to Ark Brazil , one of the largest animal protection NGOs in the country and responsible for action with the artists , the majority of pig farmers on an industrial scale in Brazil uses gestation crates , metal cages that have roughly the same body size animals. Nuts are subjected to repeated cycles of insemination and spend almost their entire lives confined in such cells , preventing them from even turning around or take more than a step forward or backward .

"McDonald's has to be consistent in Brazil and adopt the same ethical and animal welfare already have in the USA. The research is clear : the vast majority of Brazilian consumers care about the issue and does not want the animals are mistreated during the production of food , "said Marco Ciampi , President of the ark .

The commitment to the abandonment of the use of gestation crates is a topic that has gained increasing importance also in the U.S. corporate sector . In the past three years, more than 60 leading companies in the retail and food in the country announced sustainability policies committed to the elimination of this practice in their supply chains . Some of these companies are: Burger King , McDonald's , Subway , Costco and Compass Group ( represented by GRSA company in Brazil ) . Associations pork producers from Australia and South Africa have pledged to restrict the continuous confinement of sows in stalls by 2020 . The Government of Canada is now discussing a national ban .
